M. PITTMAN, JR., DIED LAST SUNDAY. James M. Pittman Jr., died at the home of his father in this place at 9 o’clock Sunday morning. At noon Christmas day the body was interred in the cemetery at Lebanon, after funeral services conducted by D. Perry Taylor, assisted by Wm. R. Holder. A quartette ren- dered appropriate music. The church was well filled with friends and relatives. The interment was in charge of the Woodmen, but only a part of their impressive ceremony was used. The deceased was nearly 32 years of age. He had been afflicted for a number of years with pul- monarv trouble, but always bore his afflictions with great fortitude and patience. He was regarded as an excellent young gentleman, not free from the frailties of the flesh, but possessing many admirable traits. His gentleness of charac- ter drew around him a large circle of friends, who join in the bereaved family in lamenting his departure. obit 2 PITTMAN.—James M. Pittman, Jr., died at his father’s home in Roanoke, Alabama, December 24. 1911. Jimmie was in the Bible College at Lexington, Kentucky, during several sessions, and here he and the writer were very inti- mately associated. The deceased was popular with his college mates and all people who knew him, both in college and at home. Our friend had been a long-time suf- ferer, though only thirty-two years of age. He no doubt felt that he had lived many times that number of years; so death came as a sweet relief. Our Sym- patliy is extended to the bereaved par- ents and sister. May the Shepherd of his people be their stay is our prayer. D. P. Taylor. Additional Comments: These obituaries were OCRed from clippings that were found in the house of an elder relative. Although he was named "James Madison Pittman Jr" he was actually the 3rd James Madison Pittman in his line; both his father and grandfather were named "James Madison Pittman". I think the first obituary most likely appeared in "The Roanoke Leader". I am unsure about the source of the second obituary but I suspect that it might be some church publication since James once attended Bible college.
