TRENT, Sr., died suddenly at 6:30 Monday afternoon at his home in this place [Roanoke]. He had been to make a call at a neighboring house and was returning. When inside his own lot he suffered an attack of heart trouble, to which he had been subject for several years. He was promptly carried indoors, but was pronounced dead soon after reaching his room. Dr. TRENT was 69 years of age in February last. He was a native Virginian, but came to this section about 43 years ago. He lived in Rock Mills many years, moving to Roanoke some 16 years ago. He was devoted to the practice of his profession, his last act being a visit to the sick. Notwithstanding his failing health, extending over a period of years, Dr. TRENT continued to labor for the relief of others. Few men had done more charity work than he. The deceased had a record as steward in the Methodist church covering about 35 years. He occupied this relation at the time of his death, though his brethren relieved him of active work since he became enfeebled. Many people living whom he had helped during his long and active life learn of his departure with deep regret and sympathize with the bereaved family left behind. [Unintelligible – is logically “Funeral services”] will be held at the Methodist church at 10 o’clock this morning, conducted by Dr. [E. M.] GLENN, assisted by Drs. [S. L.] DOBBS and [Joseph Wiley] RUCKER. Interment will be in Cedarwood. [From The Roanoke Leader (Randolph County, Alabama), 2 June 1915, p.1] ---------------------------- IN MEMORIAM ---------------------------- Death invaded the ranks of our class: on May 31st Dr. P. G. TRENT, Sr., passed from the shifting scenes of time to the abiding realities of eternity, and his spirit returned to God who gave it. Dr. TRENT could not, during his later years, be regular in meeting with us in Sunday School, becaus [sic] of the infirmities of the body; but we are sure that his heart was here. We hereby record our affectionate esteem of him as a citizen and a Christian gentleman. His memory we will cherish and his virtues emulate. A copy of these words shall be sent to the family of [the] deceased, in token of our sympathy and regard. [Balance of memorial is currently unavailable].
