Col D. S. Satterwhite, 53, US Army retired, of Florence died at the US Army Hospital at Fort Hood Saturday after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the post chapel at Fort Hood with Chaplain Kindell officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery in Wedowee, Ala., on Tuesday. Col. Satterwhite served in the US Army for 23 years and was retired in 1945 because of a disability. He was on Corregidor when it fell and was a prisoner of the Japanese for three years and 10 months. Satterwhite was a member of the Baptist Church of Wedowee, Ala. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and DAV. He was also a 32nd degree Mason. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Bill H. Satterwhite of Killeen and Clay Thomas Satterwhite of Mason; two brothers, Frank Satterwhite of Opelika, Ala., and Lester Satterwhite of Roanoke, Ala.; three sisters, Mrs. Ella Moon of Birmingham, Ala., Mrs. Annie Moon of Hogansville, Ga., and Mrs. Carrie Hurley of College Park, Ga.; and six grandchildren.
