Mrs. Mattie Leonia Sheppard, age 57, Wedowee Rt. 1, wife of Sam Sheppard, passed 
away at their home Thursday night, July 11, at eleven o'clock. Mrs. Sheppard is 
survived by her husband; two sons, William Sheppard of Lanett and Eugene 
Sheppard of Wedowee Rt. 1; five daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Smith of Detroit, Mich., 
Mrs. Essie Mae Duke of Barto, Fla., Mrs. Clessie Belle Parrish of Anniston, Mrs. 
Beatrice Hill of Lanett, and Mrs. Vera Nell Watts of Wedowee RFD; 18 
grandchildren and one greatgrandchild; four brothers, Ceef Nix of Birmingham., 
Jim and Tom Nix of Oneonta, and Hadie Nix of Cullman; two sisters, Mrs. Plessie 
Hoagland of Oneonta and Mrs. Delia Hill of Wedowee. Funeral services for Mrs. 
Sheppard were conducted Saturday afternoon at 2:30 from the Bethel West (Swagg 
community) Church, with the Rev. Loy White officiating. Interment was in the 
church cemetery. Quattlebaum's Funeral Home was in charge of funeral
arrangements
