Three men have been charged with murder and armed robbery in the Thursday 
shooting of a general store employe near this northern Randolph County community 
The three were caught by Cleburne County deputies and were in the Cleburne County 
Jail Friday awaiting transfer to neighboring Randolph Sheriff Jack Norton said 
the men were charged in the death of Monroe Shoffiett 71 of Woodland who was 
killed by a shotgun blast. He identified them as Zebedee Hayes 19 and Howard 
Protho 21 both of Heflin and David Thomas 22 of Anniston. Two of the men were 
spotted by a Cleburne deputy at a store in Heflin. The third was arrested later.
