Roanoke Leader
Mr. J. M. Smith, one of the oldest and most respected citizens of this community, 
died at his home last Sunday morning, after an illness of more than three months. 
Mr. Smith was almost eighty years of age. He leaves a wife, ten children and a 
large number of grandchildren to mourn his passing. He was an honest, upright 
citizen and was a member of Zion Baptist church, where funeral and interment were 
held on Monday.
