He was born March 1, 1880. In 1901 he married Ella Smith, and to this union were born 12 children, eight boys and four girls, all of whom are living. He joined Providence Baptist Church 37 years ago and was a faithful member until his death. He leaves an aged mother; a wife; eight boys: Jay, of LaGrange, Corbin and Boaty, of Newell, Levis, of Roanoke, and Lee, Albert, Sam, and Dents, of Woodland; four daughters: Mrs. Birdyshaw, of Franklin, Mrs. Unis Stillwell, of LaGrange, Mrs. Willie Blackmon, of Roanoke and Miss Hazel Spradlin, of Woodland, six brothers, three sisters, 23 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Providence Church with Revs. Tom Kirby, W. H. Caldwell, Guy Rodgers, and Dock Waugh in charge. Burial was in the church cemetery, Yates directing.
