Roanoke Leader
Rock Mills was shocked Monday morning by the tragic death of Mr. John Toler, a 
highly esteemed citizen of that community, who was killed by George Ludlam, a 
farmer living near Rock Mills. It is said that Ludlam became offended over a 
business matter and struck Toler with a stick, mortally wounding him. He was 
rushed to the hospital here, but nothing could be done to save his life. Ludlam 
was arrested and lodged in the county jail at Wedowee. The date for a preliminary 
hearing has not yet been set.
