Roanoke Leader
Mr. Lonnie Whaley of Newell, age 35, passed away in a Roanoke hospital Tuesday, 
April 24, at 10:00 a. m. Mr. Whaley's death resulted from an automobile accident 
Sunday night near Morrisons Crossroads, His father, Mr. Euel Whaley, was killed 
in the same accident. Funeral services were held from the Union Baptist Church at 
2:00 p. m. Wednesday, April 25. Interment was in the church cemetery under the 
direction of Quattlebaum's Funeral Home. Mr. Whaley is survived by his wife, Mrs. 
Georgie McCormick Whaley: three sons: Leo, Earl, and Leroy, all of Newell; his 
mother, Mrs. Euel Whaley six brothers: Elbert of Wedowee, Roy of Riverview, and 
Dewey, Curtis, Edward and Cleo of Wedowee; and two sisters: Miss Nellie Whaley of 
Anniston and Mrs. Lois Traylor of Heflin.
