The driver of the car, which was travelling south on the Wedowee-Anniston Highway, was H. P. Barfield, of Fort Benning, Georgia, Mr. Barfield being the only other occupant of the car. The Wilson children were walking on the right side of the road. According to witnesses the body of the boy was thrown about thirty steps from where he was struck. The girl was carried on the bumper of the car 1.4 miles before it was stopped. She was brought to a hospital in Roanoke. It is said that the Barfield car was travelling at a moderate rate but gathered speed after striking the children. A charge of murder is said to have been placed against Mr. Barfield by G. B.
