Roanoke Leader
This county lost one of its oldest and best citizens in the death at 7:30 last 
Sunday morning, July 13, of Mr. J. William Wood, which occurred at his home near 
Paran, after a long illness. Mr. Wood was 79 years of age, had been a member of 
the Paran Baptist church about 40 years and a deacon in that church for 30 years 
The funeral and interment were at that place at 11 a. m. Monday morning, services 
being conducted by Revs. M. D. Barnett, C. B. Martin and P. T. Layton, witnessed 
by a large number of relatives, friends and neighbors. Surviving this good man 
are his widow and six children. The children are Mrs. J. L. Pritchett, Walter Y. 
Wood and Mrs. E. J. Smith, of this section; Mrs. W. H. Enloe, Langdale; J. D. 
Wood, Russellville; Mrs. W. S. Herron, Cleveland, Tenn.
