J. N Word, retired schoolteacher, member of the Milton city council and father of 
J. C. Word, county superintendent of public instruction, died suddenly in his 
home here today. He was 78 years old. Funeral services will be held at his home 
at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and the cortege will leave immediately after the services 
for Wedowee, Ala., where burial will take place Sunday morning. Survivors include 
his wife Mrs. Maude Word; five sons, J. N. Jr., and J. C. Word of Milton, H. G. 
of Shawnut, Ala., Paul of Eufaula, Ala, and B. C. of Dothan, Ala, and five 
daughters, Mrs. Pearl Smith of LaFayette, Ala., Mrs. Annie Smith and Mrs. O. F. 
Rogers of Bowden, Ala.
