FLOYD DIED SUDDENLY ---------------------------- This community was shocked Saturday afternoon to learn that Dr. Dr. [sic] W. G. FLOYD had died suddenly of heart failure at 1:30 o’clock in a hospital in Atlanta. He was making fine progress toward recovery from a serious operation performed some days before and was being rolled about in an arm chair when the end came. The evening before his children here received a letter from his hand. Mrs. FLOYD was with her husband. A party of friends left for LaGrange in motor cars en route to Atlanta Saturday afternoon. Suniday [sic] noon the remains were brought to Roanoke over the A. B. & A. [Atlanta, Birmingham & Atlantic Railroad], accompanied by relatives and friends. A large gathering of sympathetic friends met the train and escorted the remains to the home, where they were viewed by a constant stream of callers until the hour for the funeral. Dr. FLOYD was 63 years of age and was Roanoke’s oldest physician since the death of Dr. P. G. TRENT, Sr., a few weeks ago. He had practiced here some 23 years and many will home him in grateful remembrance. He was a faithful husband and father, a loyal member of the Baptist church and of the Masonic fraternity. In the various departments of community life he will be missed, for he bore his part well. At 4 o’clock Monday afternoon an audience that filled the auditorium of the Baptist church and overflowed into the Sunday School room assembled to pay tribute of respect to the memory of the beloved physician. Many came from a distance. The Masons, the Eastern Star, the physicians and the board of deacons attended in a body. Dr. [J. W.] RUCKER had charge of the services and he and Dr. [E. M.] GLENN paid feeling tribute the memory of the deceased. The Masons took charge and concluded the services.
