Loy White recalled when he was 7 years old, he helped his father John W. White haul concrete to the site where a bridge spanning the Tallapoosa River would be built. That was in 1902. The Lonnie White Bridge was about three miles from Rev. White's home in Swagg Randolph County. The bridge served as the connector to Wedowee, the county seat on the Mt. Pleasant Road. People started calling it the "Lonnie White Bridge" because Mr. Lonnie White lived about a 1/4 mile from the bridge on the Swagg side. Lonnie and Loy White were brothers.
