He fathered seven children before he was killed during the Civil War in 1861. His wife is buried at Wesley's Chapel" Additional Comments: James Halpin murdered by the Randolph County Homeguards, because of the fact he refused to rejoin in the Confederate Army after the disbandment of the 22nd Alabama Infantry. There is some debate over the burial place of James Halpin some say he is buried in the Fowler Cemetery [This marker was placed here ca. 1980] while other says he is buried at Wesley's Chapel in Randolph County beside his wife. James Halpin was killed on his own land during the Civil War, the family placed a rock wall with a fieldstone marker at the tree were he was shot: "James Halpin was killed here" With the construction of Lake Harris, it is unknown if this marker is still located on the property.
