"He died as he lived, a Christian" Wadley City Cemetery (330727N 0853430W) 987 Highland Avenue (State Route 77) Township 22, Range 10, Section 11 Randolph County, Alabama Additional Comments: NEWSPAPER ABSTRACTS FROM "THE ROANOKE LEADER", Roanoke, Randolph County, Alabama for MAY/JUNE 1918 NEWSPAPER Issue of Wednesday, May 29, 1918 MR. M.H. RADNEY CALLED BY DEATH; Prominent Citizen of Wadley Buried Today Monday morning, telegraphic news was received by Messrs. J.P., H.B. and C.M. Radney of this place, that their brother Mr. Minus H. Radney was not expected to live many hours. He was in a hospital in Birmingham. Messrs. Cass Radney, J.P. Radney and B.T. Waites left from Wadley on the afternoon train. Yesterday morning, H.B. Radney received the news that his sick brother had died. This will be a shock to the friends of this well know and useful citizen, throughout the county, as he was in the prime of life. It is learned, however, that he had been in poor health for more than a year. He had been to Athens to witness the graduation of his daughter, accompanied by his wife, but was taken ill in Birmingham on his return. He began to improve and Mrs. Radney returned to Wadley. Later, the illness took a fatal turn. The interment will be at Wadley at 2 o'clock this afternoon. Many friends sympathize with the aged mother, the wife, children and brothers of the deceased. -------------- NEWSPAPER Issue of Wednesday, June 5, 1918 FUNERAL OF M.H. RADNEY WAS LARGELY ATTENDED The writer was one of the large party of Roanoke people that went to Wadley last Wednesday afternoon to attend the funeral of Mr. Minus H. Radney, whose sad demise occurred the day before in Birmingham. Mr. Radney was a prominent citizen of the town and an active member in the Methodist church. The Baptist church, the largest building in town, was overflowing with people of the community and those from various surrounding points. Rarely is so much grief manifested upon such an occasion as was in evidence at this time. Many were heard to remark that no man could be more sadly missed than he whose memory was thus honored. Even the negroes in large numbers filed by the casket. The funeral services were very touching and were participated in by Revs. O.R. Burns of Wadley, W.E. Faust of Birmingham, B.T. Waites of Roanoke and W.F. Price of Sylacauga.
