Wadley City Cemetery (330727N 0853430W) 987 Highland Avenue (State Route 77) Township 22, Range 10, Section 11 Randolph County, Alabama Additional Comments: NEWSPAPER ABSTRACTS FROM "THE ROANOKE LEADER", Roanoke, Randolph County, Alabama for APRIL 1911 and DECEMBER 1919 NEWSPAPER issue of Wednesday, April 5, 1911 W.A. RADNEY CALLED BY DEATH Randolph County lost one of her most prominent and useful citizens when at 3 o'clock last Friday morning, Hon. William A. Radney answered the summons of death at his home in Wadley beat. He had been ill nearly a week but his condition was not considered serious. Only a few minutes before the sudden call came he had been conversing with his wife. Mr. Radney was born in Georgia but had been living in this county since 1853. All but one year of that time he had been a citizen of the beat in which he died. He was nearly 65 years of age and was a Confederate veteran. He leaves a widow and six grown sons, as follows: J.P. and T.H. Radney of Roanoke; M.H. , H.B., and C.M. Radney of Wadley; and W.L. Radney of Alexander City, all esteemed business men of their respective towns. The deceased always took an active interest in public affairs and was a loyal friend to every cause. At the time of his death he was a member of the county board of education. He had long been an official member of the Methodist church and served several terms as president of the county Sunday school association. While other men might be content to sit down and criticise, Mr. Radney was up, and doing his part. Like most men of action he made mistakes but the good that he accomplished cannot be calculated. He was cheerful and optimistic and his presence was always refreshing. The token of appreciation in which Mr. Radney was held was evidenced by the great outpouring of his friends that filled the church to overflowing at the Pleasant Hill church Saturday morning, when the funeral services were conducted. Appreciations were spoken by Revs. O.L. Millican, G.G. Smith, S.L. Dobbs and B.T. Waites. The remains were carried to the old burying ground at Wadley for interment. ---- NEWSPAPER Issue of Wednesday, December 31, 1919 CARD OF THANKS We are brought under many obligations to the neighbors and friends and to the attending physician for the kind ministrations shown us and our beloved mother in her long illness and in the hours following her departure to the better world. We ask each one to accept as personal this expression of our grateful appreciation.
