George Dozier, well known Negro citizen, died yesterday morning after feeble health for several years. Both were among our best Negro citizens and held the esteem of people of both races. John Hart, better known as Snow than by his real name, died last Friday as a result of an auto wreck a few days before. He was reported to be 52 years old and had been a brake-man on the Central of Ga. Roanoke-Opelika branch for 32 years. From that long service of meeting the public he was probably more widely known than any other Negro citizen of this community. He is survived by his wife, Velma Hart. They had no children. Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Colored Baptist church of which he was a member, and burial was In Bethlehem cemetery beyond Standing Rock with Square Deal Undertakers in charge. Harmon Phillips, Sr., 83, a citizen of Randolph County for many years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Whatley, at Malone, Sunday afternoon at 4:30 after an illness of several days. R. B. (Bob) Pool, well known colored citizen of Randolph County, died at his home on Route 1 early Friday morning at the age of 82. Funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon from the Rocky Mount Methodist Church (Col.) where Uncle Bob had been an influential member for 62 years. Seven sons and daughters survive him. He had lived practically all his life in the Broughton community and was a successful farmer. Sep-1942 William Pool died early last Thursday morning. Funeral services were held by Rev. N. H. Carr at St. Paul Baptist Church Sunday afternoon. Survivors are his wife, Annie Pool, mother, Clara Pool, and four sisters. Casselberry, of Lake Forest, and William C. Casselberry, now in the South Pacific; her mother, Mrs. A. J. Green, of Roanoke; five sisters; five brothers. Gates, of Chicago; a daughter, Mrs. Minnie Hunt, of Adairsville, Ga.; eight grandchildren, two of whom Ida and Lucile Gates he reared from childhood; and five great-day grandchildren. Born in Meriweather County, Georgia on June 6( 1858) Gus Gates moved to Roanoke in 1885 joining the First Baptist Church soon after arriving. To his marriage with Minnie Greenwood were born six children. He saw Roanoke grow extensively during the 62 years of his life spent here, remembering when many of its present populated areas were mere pine thickets. Mrs. Willie Glaze, 41, died suddenly of a heart attack on the night of March 7, 1947 near her home at Hickory Flat. Interment was at White Plains on March 9, She is survived by her husband, J. C.
