[From The Roanoke Leader (Randolph County, Alabama), 2 June 1915, p.1] ---------------------------- [Excerpt from] TWO WEDDINGS TOMORROW ---------------------------- At the Methodist church at 6 o’clock tomorrow evening Miss Mattie Jeff BELCHER will become the bride of Mr. Joe Ware CARTER. They will leave immediately afterward by automobile for LaGrange, taking [rail] passage there for Atlanta and other points before arriving at Birmingham, their future home. [From The Roanoke Leader (Randolph County, Alabama), 16 June 1915, p.1] ---------------------------- MISS BELCHER HONORED ---------------------------- Mrs. E. M. MOORE entertained most charmingly in an informal way last Saturday afternoon [12 June 1915] at a miscellaneous shower in honor of Miss Mattie Jeff BELCHER, who is to become a bride Thursday evening. A reception was also tendered her Tuesday afternoon by Mrs. J. M. BELCHER. At the Sunday school of the Methodist church last Sunday suitable expression was given of the esteem in which Miss BELCHER is held and of appreciation for her work as superintendent of the primary department. The teachers and pupils of that branch of the school presented her with a silver vase. [From The Roanoke Leader (Randolph County, Alabama), 16 June 1915, p.1] ---------------------------- [Excerpt from] LARGE THRONG AT THE CHURCH ---------------------------- When this writer arrived at the rear entrance of the Methodist church shortly before six o’clock last Thursday evening [17 June 1915] a great gathering of people had assembled, to the point of overflowing the auditorium. A glance, however, revealed a scene of beauty. The decorative scheme was perfect. It included a profusion of palms, ferns and brides’ and pink roses, with draperies of pink cloth and ropes of green vines entwined. This was the work of Mrs. B. G. SANDERS and Miss Martha PITTMAN. The interesting occasion was the marriage of two of Roanoke’s most popular and esteemed young ladies to well known and promising gentleman of other cities. In both cases Miss Juliabel BEVIS was at the organ, in charge of the musical program. Before the marriage of Miss Mattie Jeff BELCHER, the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. L. BELCHER, to Mr. Joe W. CARTER, of Birmingham, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. G. CARTER, solos were rendered by Miss East and Mrs. Ben HANDLEY. Messrs. A. C. SHANKS, T. S. EAST, H. M. BRITTAIN and B. G. SHARP were on duty as ushers. Misses Irene DANIELLY and Mary CARTER were bride’s maids and Mrs. Henry DAVIDSON was matron of honor. The bride entered from the rear upon the arm of her uncle, Mr. J. M. BELCHER, while the groom appeared at the main entrance with his brother, Dr. Sanford CARTER, as best man. Misses Willie Frances SEROYER and Elizabeth BINGHAM were the lovely little flower girls and Miss Theo MOORE bore the ring in a large white rose. The ceremony was performed by Rev. E. M. GLENN. Shortly afterwards Mr. and Mrs. CARTER left for their home in Birmingham, via LaGrange, Atlanta and other points. [Portion dealing with marriage of Rev. V. W. HAMNER and Edna HOOPER deleted] Before their leaving, the winsome brides of last Thursday were the recipients of many handsome gifts from friends, as well as delightful social attentions.
