He was none other than Mr W Oscar ROBERTSON, and the cause of his abounding joy was nothing less than the fact that he had succeeded in winning the heart and hand of one of Randolph’s fairest and loveliest daughters. At 4 o’clock Sunday [3 May 1908] afternoon, at the home of Mr Thomas WEATHERS, at Springfield, his daughter, Miss Ophelia, was married to Mr W O ROBERTSON. Rev A CULPEPPER officiated. Only a few friends and relatives witnessed the interesting ceremony. The following morning, Mr and Mrs ROBERTSON came to their new home, which the former recently built, in Pool City, one of Roanoke’s new and flourishing suburbs. The groom is one of Roanoke’s most solid and popular young men. His bride is a sister of Mrs W T TENANT [sic TENNANT], of this place. She is cordially welcomed to our town. Mr ROBERTSON’s friends are congratulating him upon his good fortune, and are very kindly forgiving him for the decided shock he gave them in this unannounced but auspicious event.
