The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Project Archives to store this file permanently for free access. ==================================================================== File copyrighted and contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: adam robinson January 22, 2003, 1:15 pm Soldiers or Sailors For the relief of needy confederate soldiers and sailors,residents of alabama who from wounds or other cause, are now unable to earn a livelyhood by labor, under act approved february 13th 1891(H.B 969)and as amended february 18th 1895 (S.B 825) The State of Alabama, county of lee Before me M Robinson, judge of probate in and said in the said state,personally appeared Newton Hightower, who being duly sworn. deposes and says:he was a soldier in company K of 1st regiment of alabama volunteers and, that he did not desert the service of this state, or the Confederate States: that wgile in the discharge of his duties as such on the day of july 1864 at Newman church, in the state of Georgia, he was wounded by being shot in the knee and in consequence of such loss of limb,wound or wounds;sickness or old age, he is physically unable to earn a livelihood by labor: That he is now a bona fide resident of alabama, and that he has been such for at least one year prior to this date: that his post office address is phenix city alabama that he is engaged in the buisness of no buisness that his taxable property consists of pernonal property, and is not worth in the aggregate more than five hundred dollars: that his salary or gross income does not amount to five hundred dollars per year;and that his wife does not own a seperate estate of more than five hundred dollars;and he hereby makes application for relief under said act sworn to and subscribed before me on this 12 day of may 1894 M Robinson judge of probate Newton Hightower signature of applicant after an examination and investigation of the within application,we report that the said applicant is worthy and recommend that the applicant be recieved. june 16 1897 i find the above application is due form, and approve the same M Robinson Additional Comments: this is one of the papers from his application File size: 2.5 Kb
