Full name of soldier:  John Walker Johnston, post office address given as 
Hatchechubbee, AL; age given as 70 years 7 months and 17 days. Date of 
enlistment given as May 10, 1861 at Hatchechubbee, Alabama. Branch of Army: 
Artillery, Rank: Private, Company: 'A', under Captain R.A. Hardaway(sp? 
unclear). Colonel: David McIntosh. Time served: 4 years. Captured at Appamatox 
and imprisoned at Alexandra Jail, VA. Paroled at end of war. Date given: May 1, 
1865. Question asked; 'why. Answer 'order from Gen. Grant. 
Question: Have you resided in any other State tha Alabama? 
Answer: Georgia. Talbot County to Ala 1858.
What is actual value of property of yourself? $2,400.00
Are you married? Yes   When were you married? Feb. 8, 1866
What is the age of your present wife? 71
If ou have any living children, what are their ages, names and what is each 
doin?:  Name: Dosia Walton, age 50 (*This is Alice Theodosia Johnston m. Eugene 
George Marion Walton): Anne Johnston, age 48; J.L. Johnston age 45, occupation 
farming; Jennie  age 44; Ed Johnston age 42, occupation: farming. 
Question: Was your name taken as a Confederate soldier in the last census made 
by the state?  Answer: Yes. Question: Do you belong to a Camp of United 
Confederate Veterans? Answer: no. Question: Have you ever made application for 
a pension in any other state and been rejected? Answer: No. Question: Where are 
you registered as a voter? Answer Hatchechubbee. Question: With whom are you 
living at the present time? Answer: At Home. Question: Have you eer been on the 
pension roll of this State before? Answer: No. Signed: John W. Johnston. Sworn 
to and subscribed before me this 18 day of November 1919. Signed J.L. H(????y)

Additional Comments:
Additional information was given by two witnesses, however one I can not read. 
the other was A.B. Walker. Signed in the presence of: C.H. Page, J.P.
The questions answered were: What was your Company and Regiment? Answer given 
was Hardaway(sp?) Battery: Who was your Captain? 'Hurt'. Who was your 
Colonel? 'McIntosh'.  
I also have copies of the Pension application of Sara Jane Johnston, formerly 
Sara Jane Davis, widow of John Walker Johnston and a copy of her death 
certificate as well as other information including a copy of their marriage 
license. If anyone is interested in other information, or copies of my files
