Russell Register, February 18, 1898
"DR. HOMER H. ALLEN
Died at His Home in Oswichee Tuesday Morning Last.
Dr. Homer H. Allen died a his home in Oswichee Tuesday morning at 3 o’clock, 
after an illness of about one week, from appendicitis. Dr. Allen was taken sick 
Tuesday of last week and continued to grow worse until Saturday, when it was 
decided to perform an operation on him, and several physicians went to Oswichee 
for that purpose, but then they arrived there the condition of Dr. Allen was 
such that it was thought best not to perform the operation. He continued to sink 
until the end came at the time stated. 
     Dr. Allen was the son of Mr. Rufus Allen, of Stewart county, Ga., and was 
born in that county about thirty-four years ago. He practiced a while in his 
native county, coming to Oswichee at the death of Dr. Whittaker, which occurred 
several years ago, and took up the large practice left by his predecessor. 
     Dr. Allen was one of the leading physicians in the county, and a most 
excellent gentleman. He had many friends who deplore his death. Besides his 
parents he leaves a devoted wife and three small children to mourn his death all 
of whom have the sincere sympathy of a large circle of friends.
     The burial took place at Oswichee Wednesday."
