Russell Register, August 12, 1898
"Death Of Mr. Simeon Ashley.
     From the Columbus Ledger we learn of the death of Mr. Simeon Ashley, who died 
at his home near Crawford last Saturday morning. The deceased gentleman was 84 
years of age and had been a citizen of Russell county for perhaps half a century. 
He was a member of the Methodist church, and was a great church man. He was well 
known in Seale, having resided near here for a number of years. He leaves two sons
—Messrs. John and George W. Ashley—and one daughter—Mrs. B. F. McCollum. He also 
has one Brother—Mr. W. N. Ashley of Girard. The remains were buried at 
Hatchechubbee Sunday."
