Perry and H.C. Elliott, both policemen of Girard, Ala., fought a pistol duel on the streets of that city with the result that Elliott was instantly killed and Perry was seriously injured. The trouble is said to have began over a woman who is said to have been disorderly. It is said Elliott made the attack on Perry, firing twice, both shots taking effect before Perry, drew his gun and fired the bullet striking Elliott about the ear. Perry was wounded in the nose and under the arm, the latter being a flesh wound. Perry was on duty at the time but Elliott was not. The woman, it is said had had a difficulty with Elliott and Perry made her go home. Elliott is said to have resented this action and the shooting began. Perry is 65 years old and Elliott was 45 both married. Perry is in a serious condition but probably will recover.
