This file is copyrighted and contributed by: Brenda Barfield ==================================================================== February 1999 Obit of George Milton Hood - Russell Co., AL Ledger Enquirer, Sunday, Page 19, Sep 13, 1931: Deaths and Funerals: GEORGE MILTON HOOD, age 60, prominent Russell County pensioner died at his home on the Seale Road at 7 o'clock, Saturday morning after a lingering illness of several years. Mr. Hood had been a resident of Russell County practically all his life. As a young man he served an apprenticeship at the Columbus Iron Works as a molder and as an ice cream machine expert. The latter he practiced for a number of years, installing plants in various towns in the south. In later years until his health began to fail, he spent his time looking after his farming interests. On June 28, 1893 he was married to Miss Sallie Murray who died 13 years ago. Mr. Hood is survived by his mother, Mrs. S.A. Hood of Augusta, GA, one dtr, Miss Florence Hood of Russel Co AL, two sons, Robert S. Hood of Columbus GA and G.M. Hood Jr., of Russell Co AL, three sisters Mrs. G.M. Bowring of Atlanta, Mrs. E.L. Reese of Columbus GA and Mrs. C.A. Dennis, of Augusta, one brother W.M. Hood of Augusta, and one grand dtr, Miss Kathleen Hood. Funeral services will be held from the D.A. Striffler Chapel Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock with Rev C. Pierce Harris of St. Luke Methodist Church officiating. The following gentlemen have been requested to serve as pallbearers: Jake Knight, J.B. Knight, F.A. Heard, N.H. Harris, W.A. Allrid and A.J. Floyd. The interment will take place in Girard Cemetery (Russell, AL Co AL).
