"Miss Gertrude" was a teacher for over 40 years at Girard Elementary School in Phenix City. She was the wife of Marvin Howell. Mrs. Howell was a native of Girard and a lifelong resident of that community. Her parents were the late Charles Walton Field and Willie McCook Field. She was a life-long member of the Girard Baptist Church. Mrs. Howell lived at 1208 Columbus Avenue, Phenix City. Surviving are her husband; two sons, Charles H. Howell, Phenix City, and Thomas N. Howell, Carswell Air Force Base, Fort Worth, Texas; step-son, Grover Marvin Howell, Phenix City; daughter, Mrs. Joseph Wright, Jr., Phenix City; brother, Charles Walters Field, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Harmon Lynn Norton, Washington, D.C., and Mrs. Goodnow Temple, Silver Springs, Md.; two grandchildren, and three nieces and nephews. Funeral was held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Girard Baptist Church. The Rev. Robert C. Perry, pastor of Girard Baptist Church; the Rev. Lloyd W. Tubb, pastor of First Methodist Church, and the Rev. Jimmy Hayes, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, conducted the service. Pallbearers were James Slay, David Purvis, J.D. Murphy, Robert W. Crowley, Horace Hancock, and Jesse Nix. Honorary pallbearers were I.I. Moses, Lawrence G. Blau, H.A. Ferrell, Sr., V.C. Curtis, Sr., V. Cecil Curtis, Oscar Everidge, L.P. Stough, W.O. Langley, Roy L. Smith, Joseph W.
