In the county jail at Girard the elder McSwain denied that he had fired the shot that killed his son. “I didn’t kill my child,” he told officers. Relatives of the McSwains stated that bad blood existed between the two for several months. There were no eyewitnesses to the shooting, officers declared. The body of young McSwain was found with a single bullet wound in his temple.
