Slaton, of Columbus, committed suicide at the home of his sister, Mrs. Edna Forsyth in Phenix City, Ala., today, by swallowing carbolic acid. He was found in an unconscious condition, and a physician, who was summoned thought at first he had been paralyzed, but detecting the odor of carbolic acid, investigated and found that his mouth and throat were badly burned. The empty phial (vial) was found just outside the window. Death resulted in a few minutes. Slaton was 60 years of age. Several children survive him. There is no cause for the suicide.
