My grandfather Felder Layfield, attended school at Girard Elementary in the 1920s.
This is a photo of him with his teacher, Mrs. Gertrude Howell. She was known as
"Miss Gertrude" at school and taught at Girard for over 40 years until her death in
1953. I have posted her obituary to the Russell County, Alabama Archives.
