James L. Lewis Deed to James Rogan
This indenture made this twenty third day of February A.D. eighteen hundred and
thirty one between James L. Lewis of the first part and James Rogan of the
second part both of the county of St. Clair and State of Alabama witness that
the said James L. Lewis for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred and
twenty five dollars to him in hand paid by the said party of the second part the
receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath given granted bargained sold
enfessed released confirmed and by then presents doth give grant bargain sell
enfessed release and confirm and deliver unto the said James Rogan a certain lot
or parcel of land with the buildings thereon and all and singular the
appurtenances there unto belonging said lot situated lying and being in the town
of Asheville and designated and known in the plat of said town as lot number
forty one and containing one third of an acre more of less as will more fully
appear by refference to the plan of said town to have and to hold the said
bargained and sold as intended to be bargained and sold lot and tenaments issues
rents and profits with all and every part and parcel thereof unto the said party
of the second part his heirs executors administrators and assigns forever to the
sole and only proper are benefit and behoof of the said party of the second part
forever and the said party of the first part for and against himself his heirs
executors and administrators and against the claim as claims of any person of
persons whatever doth and will forever warrant and defend the right title
interest property claim and demand of in and to the said bargained and sold land
& tenaments together with every part and parcel of the same unto the said party
of the second part his heirs executors admiistrators and assigns forever and the
said party of the first doth also covenant and agree to and with the said party
of the second part that he is well seized and possessed of said lot and tenaments

and above written.

The State of Alabama St. Clair County
Personally appeared before me Archibald Sloan in acting justice of the peace in
and for said county the above named James L. Lewis who acknowledged that he
signed sealed and delivered the foregoing deed on the day and year therein
maintained to the aforesaid James Rogan given under my hand and seal this 23rd
day of February 1831
