The death of this esteemed man of God was not unexpected to his numerous friends and relatives, as he had been the subject of affliction for several months; and he as well as his friends were conscious of the approaching end of his life among his fellow earthly mortals, for sometime. The deceased was one of our most prominent citizens, a devout Christian gentleman, respected and honored by all who knew him, and perhaps, no man in the state ever left behind him at his departure such a host of relatives and family connections. He had been a member of the Baptist Church for forty years and faithful to the cause of religion from fist to last. He has left to us all the heritage of his good name, religious life and faithful work as a laborer in God's vineyard. His funeral took place, on Monday last, the memorial service being conducted by Rev. J. R., Gleen, assisted by Rev. J. S. E. Robinson, at the Baptist church, and was very impressive. The large hall of the building was crowded with attentive listeners who had come from far and near to pay their last respects to the dead. After the services at the church, the remains were borne to the grave and interred in the presence of a sorrowing multitude." (1) (1) Southern Aegis, Ashville, St. Clair Co., AL, 13 Mar 1890.
