Unable to find Payne Cemetery on this road. The cemetery transcribed is NOT Payne cemetery to which the sign refers. However, John Knox Elliot, who is buried in this cemetery, was apparently married first (abt. 1836) to Nancy T. Payne, daughter of William Payne of Kershaw Co., SC who settled early in Payneville, just down the road from this location. Nancy Payne Elliot died in 1850 in Payneville, but is not buried in this Elliott Cemetery. John Knox Elliott second married Nancy Oliver Nowlan about 1854, and finally Elizabeth Jane. He had several children with each wife, but only Elizabeth Janes'grave can be seen in this location. There are several other graves that are not marked with markers.
