[OF SAINT PAULS, ROBESON CO NC] Transcribers notes: Duncan Evans of Saint Pauls in Robeson County was married in the year 1823 to Nancy Regan, a daughter of Joseph Regan, Sr., Esq and wife Dorethea, of the Ten Mile Swamp and Wildcat Swamps section of northeastern Robeson Co NC. They lived closer to Saint Pauls, and were communicants of the Saint Pauls Presbyterian Church while here in Robeson Co NC. They along with other Robeson County families left and migrated to Alabama where they settled in Brownsville in Talladega County. This settlement was in the area of Talladega, that's known now as Clay County, Alabama. They along with others mentioned in this letter were buried in the churchyard of the old Hatchet Creek Presbyterian Church in Clay County, Alabama. The transcriber is related to this family as he is a great great great grandson of Ralph Regan, Sr., who was the oldest brother of the above mentioned Nancy Regan Evans, wife of Duncan Evans. Talladega Alabama November 16th 1847 Dear Sir, Having delayed writing to you until this late period I have no excuse or apology to offer only that I might be able to tell you whither or not that I consider myself perminantly located I am happy to informe you that I am well pleased with my moved and consider myself perminant and have farther to inform you we are all well and have enjoyed (with a small exception of sickneSs of our son D. L. Evans) since our departure from old Carolina uninterrupted good health for which we feel thankful to the given of all bleSsings. As it regards or croSs we think have made a bountiful support to not withstanding our late start in the spring occasioned by the exceSsive wet season which too made or land hard to manage, you have no Just conseption of the groath of vegetation has to what it is there. We too are equally pleased with our Neighbours being surrounded with old North Carolina schotch folks we are right between your uncle J. B. Brown and your Brother in law D. Brown they are all well. --------------------------------- Dear Cousin I will now vary my subject by requesting you to write me and let me know what serious changes have taken place there since our removal to the west you will please informe me what dispositions you have made of the accounts left in your hands by me. This being the opning correspondence betwene us hope you will back it up as none of my Friends to whom I have written there have ever answered or replyed to me as I am anxious to hear where my Aged Father and Mother are living have thy are doing you will please do me the favour to mention them with all other relations and Friends Cotton crops and corn also have turned outwill I carried one bag of cotton to Wetumka for which I got 8 ½ cts, corn is worth forty cents retail price on the road and about 28 cts in the Neighbourhood beef from 2 to 2 ½ prk from 4 to 5 wheat about 75 per bushel having none briefly writen to you will look for a full letter from you to me and come to a close stating the prices of tuition (which I had like to have forgotten) to do me consider high various ClaSses as follows 6 dollars lowest grade second & third ten highest 15 having now gone through hope these lines will find you all well and receive the best wishes of my and family for you Family and all inquiring friends begining and well wishes D.
