     Confederate pension application for W.J. Chaney, Parker County,
     Texas, P.O. Weatherford, comptrollers File #6514, approved 14th of
     March, 1900. Answers to questions:
     My name is W.J. Chaney, my age is 64 years.
     I reside in Parker County, Texas. I have lived in Parker County
     ever since 1878, 21 years, P.O. Box, Weatherford, Texas;
     I served in Co. F., 51st Ala. Calvary, Wheeler's Regiment from
     1862-1865, 3 years.
     I own no real estate. I own 2 mules the value of 37.50 each, total
     $75
     I have not sold or conveyed in the last 2 yrs. any property except
     one horse for $25.
     I receive no income whatsoever
     I am indigent
     I am unable to earn support
     I have been continuously since the first day of Jan, 1880, been a
     bonified resident of this state. I have been since 1871.

     Answers by witness, T.W. Chaney:
     My name is T.W. Chaney, I am 63 years old and I reside in Van Zandt
     County, Texas.
     Yes, I do personally know the applicant W.J. Chaney-he is my
     brother and is about 2 years older than I. We were both born in
     Talledega County, Alabama. We removed from there to Texas in 1870
     and I have known him ever since. I personally know that W.J. Chaney
     enlisted and served for more than three years as a soldier in the
     Confederate army. I do not remember the letter of his company, but
     think he was in Capt. Johnson's Co. in the 51st Ala. Cav., Col.
     Jno. T. Morgan. Gen. Joe Wheelers Corps, Gen. Wade Hampton
     commanding for a short while just before the close of the war. W.J.
     Chaney applicant never deserted the Confederacy nor the Confederate
     Army. Yes, I served in the 8th Confederate Cavalry, Co. A, CS Army
     for four years and I personally knew J.W. Chaney during the war and
     know that he served a soldier in the Confederate Army for about 3
     years. I saw applicant W.J. Chaney a little over 3 years ago. I was
     at his home in Parker County about 5 miles west of Weatherford.
     Weatherford is his post office. I had a letter from him last week.
     It was in his own handwriting. signed, T.W. Chaney, Nov. 9th, 1889
     before Jno. W. Davidson, Notary Public, VZCo, Texas.
     
     Answers by witness A.J. McClellan:
     My name is A.J. McClellen; I am 70 years old. Farmer. I reside in
     Van Zandt County, Texas about 1 1/2 miles north from Canton. I do
     personally know the applicant W.J. Chaney. I have known him all his
     life. I first knew hime in Talledega County, Alabama. We were both
     raised there. We came to Texas together about 1870. I have known
     him ever since. Yes, W.J. Chaney enlisted in Talladega County,
     Alabama in the Confederate Army in Company ?, Capt. Johnson, I
     think, Jno. T. Morgan's Regt. 51st Ala. Cav. Gen Joe Wheeler's
     Army. I was with him frequently during the war. While he was in the
     army and I know he made a good soldier. He enlisted early in the
     year of 1862. I do not now remember the letter of his company but I
     know he was in Jno. T. Morgan's Regiment in General Joe Wheeler's
     command and I think his captain was named Johnson. W.J. Chaney
     never deserted the Confederacy nor the Confederate Army, but staid
     in the army until close of the war in 1865. Yes, I served as a
     soldier in the CA army in Co. K, 22nd Alabama Inf. And I personally
     knew applicant W.J. Chaney as a Confederate soldier and knew him in
     the army. I last saw W.J. Chaney about 3 years ago. He was here on
     a visit. He then lived in Parker County and lives there still,
     about 5 miles west from Weatherford I think. I believe that
     Weatherford is his post office. I have not had a letter from hime
