Anniston Star
Services for Lt. Col. Fred D. Brown, 53, of Columbus, formerly of Talladega, 
will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with an Army chaplain 
officiating. Full military graveside services will be in Bethel Memorial Gardens 
with Strickland and Sims Funeral Service in charge. The family will receive 
friends tonight from 7 to 8 at the funeral home where the body will be until and 
hour before services. Mr. Brown died Monday at Martin Army Community Hospital at 
Fort Benning, Ga. Survivors Include his wife, Mrs. Doris T. Brown of Columbus; 
two daughters, Miss Jennifer Brown of Ypsilanti, and Mrs. Frieda Craig of 
Bessemer; and a son, Douglas Brown of Columbus; his father, Robert Brown of 
Alpine; five sisters, Mrs. Sadie Lawson of Lafayette, Mrs. Sidney Burks of 
Mobile, Mrs. Emily McClendon of Lima, Ohio, and Mrs. Sally Swain and Mrs. 
Alberta Seay, both of Alpine; two brothers, Robert Brown of Detroit and Harvey 
Brown of Ga. and three grandchildren. Pallbearers will be military personnel. 
Mr. Brown was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He was a Korea War and Vietnam 
War veteran. He was awarded 17 including the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, the 
bronze star, the meritorious service medal and the purple heart.
