Hogan, was born 30 Nov 1854 in Coosa County, Alabama (maybe Tallapoosa Co) Fishpond, AL. He died 26 Nov 1890 in Tallapoosa County, AL. He died at home of typhoid fever a few days after drinking spoiled milk during his lunch while on jury duty in Dadeville, AL. He is buried at the Fishpond Primitive Baptist Cemetery, Tallapoosa Co, AL John Thomas married Lovely Anna Smith, daughter of Jasper Lincoln Smith, Sr. and Frances Elizabeth Eden. She was born 30 Nov. 1860 in Coosa Co, AL (maybe Tallapoosa Co) and died on 09 Feb 1940 in Phenix City, AL. Lovely Anna Smith’s father, son of Robert W. Smith and Sarah Ann Pearson, was in the Civil War, inducted in 1862 into Co. F, 1st Ala Regiment, later transferred to Co. B, 12th Ala. Regiment in Virginia. The 12th Ala. Regiment was commanded by Col. Samuel B. Pickens. Co. B was made up of men from Coosa Co. They were a part of the Brigade of General Robert E. Rodes. Rodes division was a part of the 2nd Army Corps commanded by Lt. General Thomas J. (Stonewall) Jackson, and part of Gen. Robert E. Lee’s army of northern Virginia. Jasper, Sr. was captured at Petersburg, Virginia, on April 2, 1865, later released at Point Lookout, Maryland, on June 19, 1865. After the war, Jasper, Sr., taught school. Lovely Anna Smith’s mother (Frances Elizabeth Eden) was the daughter of Rev. James G. Eden and Harriet (Unknown name) Eden. Rev. Eden was an early settler of Coosa County. He was the first pastor of Fishpond Primitive Baptist Church, founded in 1842. Rev. Eden died in 1857 and is buried in a marked grave at Fishpond Cemetery. Of Interest: In the 1880 Census, Nixburg, Coosa, Ala, Jasper Smith and Frances E., with children (including Lovely A., age 19) lived 5 houses down from Moses Meadows. Jasper Lincoln Smith, Sr., and Frances Eden Smith are buried in the Flint Hill Methodist Cemetery. They were married 25 July, 1858 in Coosa Co., Ala. John Thomas Meadows and Lovely Anna Smith’s children were: Alvin Meadows, Alonzo Meadows, Annie Love Meadows, Lillian Augusta (Gussie) Meadows, Reuben Roy Meadows, and John Thomas (Tom) Meadows. After John Thomas’ death, in 1902, Lovely Anna Meadows (also known as Grand Jenny) moved to Columbus, GA. There had been a flood that had washed away the 14th St. Bridge (called the old Godwin Bridge) and the family had to walk across the Cobb Bridge to get from Alabama to Georgia. They moved into a house on Church Street, called that due to a Primitive Baptist Church, a Methodist Church, and a Baptist Church being on the same street. The family lived across the street from the old Primitive Baptist Church. Grand Jenny moved her family to Phenix City for a short time, then back to Columbus to a ten room house in Bibb City, an area north of Columbus on the River where the Bibb Cotton Mills were located. Census records show that most of her children worked in the mills at early ages. Here, in the ten room house, is where she ran a boarding house. She later married a Mr. James Weed of Columbus. She died on 9 Feb 1940 in Phenix City, Ala and is buried at Linwood Cemetery in Columbus, GA. My Grandmother was Annie Love Meadows, born 8 May 1886 in Tallapoosa Co, Ala. She died on 20 Aug 1974 in Phenix City, Al; buried at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Phenix City. All of the information about her family she provided as my cousin Chester Tice tape recorded it all. Annie Love married Samuel Oscar Tice on 12 April 1904 in Columbus, GA. Their children were Harry Eugene Tice, Douglas Oscar Tice, Frances Andrew (Mike) Tice, Bill Tice, Dexter Tice, Mary Love Tice, Dan Meadows Tice, and Emmitt Earl Tice. At this time (March 2009) Mary Love Tice Smith and Emmitt Earl Tice are living in Phenix City, Ala. The others are deceased. Dexter Tice was my father. My mother was Myrtle Louise Wellborn. My brothers are James H. Tice of Opelika, Alabama and Oscar Edwin Tice of Lawton, Oklahoma. Additional Comments: This information is furnished by Martha Jean Tice Greenia. I would like to give credit to my cousin Danny Tice (son of Dan Meadows Tice) for the research he has compiled on the Meadows family.
