Wilson, 1994 The Youngville Cemetery--In the Vicinity of the 'Georgia Store' This abandoned cemetery located in Township 23 North, Range 21, Section 28, Alexander City, Tallapoosa County, Alabama, is the first known cemetery used by settlers near the 'Georgia Store' in the Youngville vicinity. On March 19, 1873, the General Assembly of Alabama enacted that the town of Youngville 'of the County of Tallapoosa in this State, shall hereafter be called 'Alexander City,'...' This is the only known survey of the old Youngville Cemetery, located in Alexander City, Tallapoosa County, Alabama. Because of the location of the cemetery, the existance of it has not been generally known by the community. In 1994, the survey of the cemetery was made available in a private publication by Sandra S. Wilson. On this sacred ground there appears to be several hundred sunken unmarked graves. Because most are covered with underbrush they are only noticeable to one who knows of the existance of the cemetery. The sunlight shining down through the trees makes one realize this isn't an ordinary cemetery since the graves contain the remains of the settlers who came before and immediately after the creation of the county in 1832. Many of the graves are marked with piles of antebellum bricks, however, most are marked with only fieldstone. They are scattered with no consistent rows or family plots. Some of the graves that are marked are inscribed on antebellum marble.
