Thornton April 2001 Fallin Cemetery Tallapoosa County, Alabama R 23 E - T 20 N NE corner of SW quarter of Section 10 This Cemetery can be reached from Camp Hill, AL by taking AL Hwy. 50 South and then West to the community of Thornton. Or from Dadeville, AL by taking AL Hwy. 49 South to AL Hwy. 50, turn left onto AL Hwy. 50 and go to the community of Thornton. In Thornton, turn North at the New Adka Church onto North Thornton Road. Travel 2.2 miles to a Chain Link gate on the left. This gate is two tenths of a mile past the Thornton Cut-off. The Thornton Cut-off goes to Churchill Road on which is the Ware Cemetery where one member of this Fallin family is buried. Namely, Burnetta Fallin, wife of Frank Ware (Ephram Franklin Ware). The Middlebrooks - Fallin Cemetery is on private property and permission may be obtained from the owner at the house on the left before arriving at the chain link gate. Go through the gate and stay to the right and go about two hundred yards. The cemetery will be on your right. Although this cemetery is known as the Fallin Cemetery, it is identified as the Middlebrooks - Fallin Cemetery in the Historical Atlas of Alabama / Cemeteries by County. Which is published by The University of Alabama Arts and Sciences. This is a full and complete transcription made on 1 April 2001 by Roger G. Thornton and Lucia Cierva (Castor) Thornton. And checked again on 8 April 2001. We started at the South end of the Eastern most row of graves, and worked South to North on each row. In 1982, Walter Thomas Pugh, 1893-1985, said that the wife of Sanders Brazel was buried here. She would be Martha Ann Fallin, daughter of Richard Hobson Fallin and grand-daughter of Jesse Fallin and Nancy Middlebrooks. Mr.Pugh said the wife of I. N. Middlebrooks was buried here also. She would be Lucinda Fallin, daughter of Jesse Fallin and Nancy Middlebrooks. Row 1 1. A large Oak tree had fallen into the cemetery and covers one grave. Based on the location of what appears to be a fieldstone at the foot of the grave, I have determined this to be the grave of an adult. The tree covers the place the head stone would be. 2. Infant. The thin veneer of concrete which may have contained the data has fallen away from the up-right concrete marker. Thornton's epitaph may have been meant to be 'Weary' as another descendant, Sheila Diane 'Brooks' Douglass, nor I, am able to find the word 'Meary' in any dictionary. The M may be an accidentally inverted W. This concludes the transcription of the Middlebrooks-Fallin Cemetery. There appears to be about 39 graves here not counting the two memorials for John S. and Thomas Fallin, sons of Jesse Fallin and Nancy Middlebrooks. This cemetery and the surrounding property was owned by Jesse Fallin when this cemetery was started.
