Thornton and wife, Lucia (Lucy) Cierva Castor Thornton January 2001 Transcribed, January 2000 Tallapoosa County, Alabama Location of this cemetery is southwest of Camp Hill, AL. off of Tallapoosa County Road 34. From Opelika, AL go north on U. S. Highway 280. County Road 34 will be on your left where Ala. Hwy. 50 comes into highway 280 on your right at Camp Hill, AL. Turn left onto 34, go 3.55 miles. You'll pass Pine Grove Church on the left. Turn left at the first road to the left after the church. That will be Churchill Rd. Go almost exactly one mile. The Ware Cemetery will be on your left in a chain link fenced-in area about 30' x 40'. Do not go to visit the cemetery in rainy weather as the road is paved only about a couple hundred yards when you first turn onto it. Then it's red clay. Which is a real mess when wet. There is only seven distinguishable graves and two possible, marked only by small stones. There is supposed to be two unmarked graves to the left as you enter the gate but there is no evidence that they exist. They are supposed to be of two children killed in a big storm in Agricola, Tallapoosa Co., AL in the 1920's. No one remembers what family they were from, just that their family had no place to bury them at the time. Six of the seven are well marked considering the elapsed time. The inscriptions on the markers are as follows. Frank Ware Born 15 Dec. 1828 Died 28 Jan. 1902 Our Father in His wisdom called, The boon his love had given And though on earth this body lies, The soul is safe in Heaven. -notes- (this is Ephram Franklin Ware, son of Allen Ware and Mary Bateman) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Burnettie wife of E. F. Ware Born 20 Mar. 1834 Died 9 Apr. 1911 She's gone to worlds above, Where saints and angels meet, To realize our Saviors love, And worship at His feet. -notes- (Burnettie is Burnetta Fallin, daughter of Jesse Fallin and Nancy Middlebrooks) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mattie A. wife of S. M. Pugh born 19 Dec. 1856 Died 5 Mar. 1916 Having served her generation, by the will of God she fell asleep. -notes- (this is Martha Ann Ware, daughter of Ephram Franklin Ware and Burnetta Fallin) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sarah Jane Higgins Born 2 Jul. 1858 Died 1 Apr. 1937 -notes- (daughter of E. F. and Burnettie Ware) (married Ben W. Higgins in 1897) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ophelia A. Ware daughter of E. F. & Burnettie Born 10 Mar. 1873 Died Dec. 1880 God in His wisdom has called The boon his love had given And though the body moulders here The soul is safe in heaven -notes- (It is very similar to her father's.) (the birth year appears to be 1873 or 1878) (unable to read day of death) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ann Frances Ware Daughter of J. S. and Miriam Ware Born 28 Jun. 1889 Died 30 Jan. 1890 Aged 7 mos 2 days -notes- (This would be John Simuel Ware & Miriam Webster) (John is the son of E. F. and Burnetta Ware) (Miriam is the daughter of Samuel Webster and Frances Cadenhead) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- One infant grave with no inscription and two possible graves marked with small stones. ( there appears to be no depression at the stones to indicate a burial.) This is a complete record of the burials at this family cemetery.
