Wilson earlwilson1@charter.net May 25, 2004, 11:38 am [No page number] The Baptist[s]of Youngville and vicinity met Aug 3 1872 at a bush arbor near Youngvill [sic] for the purpose of constituting a missionary Baptist Church Brother A K Tribble an ordained Minister being present the church was constituted with Bro B.B. Reams a deacon and his wife Sister Reams and Sister E Cabaniss there being no other letters Bro A M Buckalew a licenciate [sic] Bro James Fincher Creg Fincher J.T.P. Christian Deacons T.S. Christian and wife G.V. Christian Sister Sarah Park S M A Harrison being present without letter went under the watch care of the church until they could be obtained from their churches The following was presented as an abstract of their views as taught in the Bible the word of God 1st We believe that the Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is a perfect treasure of heavenly instruction that it has God for its author salvation for its end, without any mixture of error for matters that it reveals the principals by which God will judg [sic] us and therefore is and shall, remain to the end of the world the true center of Christian union and the supreme standard by which all human conduct creeds and opinion shall be tried 2 We believe ther [sic] is but one True and living God who is Jehova [sic] the maker and ruler of the heavns [sic] and the earth worthy of all possible confidence [illegible] and love revealed under the personal and relative distinctions of the Father son and Holy Ghost equal in every divine [No page number] perfection and executing distinct but harmonious officers in the great work of redemption 3rd We believe that man was created in a state of holiness under the law of his maker but by volentary [sic] transgression fell from that holy and [illegible] state in consequence of which all mankind are siners [sic] not by constraint but by choice being void of that holyness [sic] acquired by the law of God wholy [sic] given to the gratificaion of the world of satin and of their own sinful [illegible] and therefore under just condemnation without excuse or defence 4th We believe that the salvation of sinners is wholy [sic] of grace through the mediational office of the son of God who took upon himself our nature sin excepted known by his personal obedience and attoned [sic] for our sins by his death having arisen from the dead he is now inthroned [sic] in heaven and is every way qualified to be a suitable a compassionate and an all sufficient Savior 5th We believe that we are justified only through the righteousness of Jessus [sic] Christ and not in consideration of any works of righteousness on the part of the creature 6th We believe in order that a person may be saved he must be regenerated and born again [Page] 9 Sec 11 the Church shall make choice of a Pastor and clerk whinever [sic] she thinks best Sec 12 it shall be the duty of the moderator to inforce [sic] the above regulations or laws likewise it shall be the duty of the clerk to keep a correct record of the proceedings of the church and to do any writing she may direct 13th This Decorum can be altered or amended whenever two thirds of the conference think proper The above articles of faith and decorum being read and adopted and the parties as we believe being found Orthordox [sic] and orderly were constitued into a church Missionary Baptist Church by the name of Youngville Baptist Church where in from the right-hand of fellowship was given by the Brethren & Sisters and they pronounced a church of Jesus Christ - Bro A K Trible being the officiating minister After which the Church went into conferance [sic] and elected T S Christian clerk of the church the meeting being continued on Sunday the 4 opened the doors of the church secured under the watch care of the church Bro Wm,, Fincher & John Fincher on Wednesday 7 Rec by Experiance [sic] Sister S, E Parker Thursday & [Page] 10 N.E. Christian at night under the watch care of the Church Sister Edna Buckalew on Saturday 10 Recd by Experiance [sic] Brothren [sic] Henry Horsely James Cabaniss Henry Cabaniss and Mary A Cabaniss also received under the watch care of the Church Bro John J Cabaniss Thy Meeting closing on the 10th of Aug 1872. A K Trible Mon T S Christian C.C. Aug 31 1872 The Baptist Church of Youngville met Saturday after a Sermond [sic] by Bro Wilson met in conferance [sic] opeed the doors of the Church for the reception of Members H H Steward and his wife Ann Steward came forward and related their experiance [sic] both of which were accepted into the Christian fellowship of the church also Sister Sarah Parker presented her letter which was received the church then went into choice of Pastor which resulted in the election of Bro A K Tribble unanimously. then appointed [Page] 11 a committee consisting of Brother J T. P Christian & B B Reames to wait upon Bro Tribble 3rd The Church then voted on the question as to which Association they make applications to per admission the result was for the Tallapoosa River The Church then Elected Bren [sic] J T P Christian T S Christian & B B Reams J [illegible] Fincher Alternate noted as delegates to the Association. The Church then apointed [sic] Brothren [sic] A M Buckalew J T P Christian and T S Christian to confer with the Church at Elkahatchee as to the propriety of her Church and house being moved to Youngville and unite with us. The Church sent up $2.00 for minutes their being no other business adjourned A M Buckalew Mdr T S Christian CC [Page] 20 The Baptist Church at Alexander City met Saturday beore the 1st Sunday in Nov 1873 after a sermond [sic] by Bro J.R. Caldwell met in Conferance [sic] the time having arrived to select a pastor for the insuing year on motion of Bro Buckalew went into choice resulting in the Election of Bro J R Caldwell Bro Caldwell being present accepted the call there being no other business adjourned on Sunday following according to previous appointment the ordination of H H Stewart & T S Christian took place by the following presbytry [sic] Rev J R Caldwell Deacon J M Berry and Deacon B B Reams J R Caldwell Md T S Christian C.C. By agreement the name of the Church was changed from Youngville to Alexander City The Baptist Church at Alex City Saturday before the 1st Sunday in Dec 1873. No business.
