RAY TO L. B. SPAIN 1853 The State of Alabama Tallapoosa County Know all men by these presents that I William Ray of said County, here for and in consideration of securing L. B. Spain in his standing my security to William Vestue for the sum of eighty five dollars due 25 December 1853 given, granted, sold and conveyed to said Spain the Black Mare I bought of the said Vestue, also all the crop of every kind I may make the present year with perfect right to take prossession (sic) of the said mare and crop at any time to apply to the payment of said notes. Now when said notes fall due if they are not paid by said Ray, then said Spain shall have full power to advertise ten days and expose to sale any or all of said property, and apply the proceeds of said sale to the payment of said notes. If said Ray shall pay said notes when due, then this deed is to be void, but if not paid is to remain in full force and virtue. Given with my hand and sealed with my seal and dated 6th June 1853 William C. Ray-his seal Signed sealed and delivered in presence of (None Listed) The State of Alabama Tallapoosa County I William Porch, an acting Justice of the Peace in and for the County hereby certify that William C. Ray, whose name is signed to the foregoing conveyance, and who is known to me, acknowledged before me, on this day, that being informed of the contents of the conveyance, he executed the same voluntarily on the day this same bears date.
