SILAS B. RAY TO UNDERHILL E. DAVIS 1852

The State of Alabama
Tallapoosa County

This indenture made the eleventh day of August in the year of our Lord on 
thousand eight hundred and fifty two between Silas B. Ray of the state and 
county of the one part and Underhill E. Davis of the county and state of the 
other part witness that the said Silas B. Ray for and in consideration of the 
sum of one hundred dollars to him in his hand paid by the said Underhill E. 
Davis at and before the sealing and delivering of the presents the receipt 
whereof I hereby acknowledge I do hereby bargain sell and confirm unto the said 
Underhill E. Davis all that tract or parcel of land to wit: The North East 
quarter of the South East quarter of Section No. 37 in Township No. 23 of Range 
No. 22 containing forty acres and in the above state and county together with 
all and singular the right and appurtenances thereunto the said Underhill E. 
Davis his heirs and assigns forever and the said Silas B. Ray do covenant with 
the said Underhill E. Davis that I am lawfully seized in fee simple of afore 
granted premises and that I have a good right to sell and convey the same and 
that I will warrant and forever defend the right and title of the afore granted 
premises unto the said Underhill E. Davis his heirs and assigns against the 
lawful claims of all persons by virtue of these presents in whereof as said 
Silas B. Ray have hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year above written.

Personally appeared before me William Evens a Justice of the Peace of said 
County et al-this at one named Silas B. Ray who acknowledged that he signed and 
delivered the aforegoing deed on the day and year therein mentioned to the 
aforesaid Underhill E. Davis.
Given under my hand and seal this the day and above  (can’t read) this the 13 
day of August 1852

The forgoing deed was filed in office for record the 3rd day pf January 1853 
and recorded the same day.
