GEORGE MAY TO BAXTER RAY AND A. J. PETTY 1852

The State of Alabama
Tallapoosa County

This August, second day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight 
hundred and fifty two.  Know all men by these presents, that I George May do 
this day bargain, sell, release and convey unto Baxter Ray and A. J. Petty all 
my crop of corn & cotton & fodder, and a light sorrel mare with a blaze face, 
some two years old, to secure these for standing security on a certain note 
given for land rent to Joseph Lindsey amounting to fifty dollars, payable 
Christmas 1852 with a (can’t read) on it of six dollars and 21 cts.  Now if 
George May shall pay or cause to be paid the above indebtedness this deed to be 
null and void but if the said George May shall not pay the said indebtedness by 
the first day of November, then said Ray and Petty may advertise said crop and 
mare in three public places in the County, giving 30 days notice of the place 
and time of sale and pay themselves and the surplus is any they will pay over 
to Mr. May.  This the day and date written.

Personally appeared before me James Baxley, a Justice of the Peace, George May, 
who acknowledged that he assigned said deed of trust and sealed the same and 
delivered it over to B. Ray and Petty for the purpose within contained, on the 
day of the date above written.
