THOMAS RAY TO PHEBE STARR 1840

The State of Alabama
Tallapoosa County

This indenture made and entered in and between Thos. Ray of the first part and 
Phebe Starr of the second-Witnesseth that the said Thos. Ray [can’t read] in 
consideration of the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars to him paid in hand 
by the said Phebe Starr the receipt whereof  I do hereby acknowledge have this 
day and date have of bargained & sold and by these presents bargain grant sell 
unto the said Phebe Starr to her heirs and assigns forever a certain tract of 
land known as the North West Quarter of the South East Quarter of Section 
Thirty (30) in Township Twenty of Range Twenty-four (24) East in the Tallapoosa 
Land district subject to sale at Montgomery Alabama containing forty acres 
together with all and singular the rights and appurtenances thereunto belonging 
or in any wise appertaining and the said Thos. Ray for himself and his heirs 
will warrant and forever defend the right title of said Land unto the said 
Phebe Starr her heirs and assigns forever in fee simple it being in the year of 
our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty October 16th day.  In testimony 
whereof I have here unto set my hands and seal.

I Joshua Starr an acting Justice of the Peace in and for the said County and 
State aforesaid do hereby certify that on the 16th day of October 1840 the 
within named Thomas Ray personally appeared before me and acknowledged the 
within instrument to be his free act and deed.
