All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/al/alfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Beverly Giles Loffler beverly@jloffler.com January 25, 2005, 5:44 pm Written: December 20 1856 Recorded: December 22 1856 Transcribed by Beverly Giles Loffler beverly@jloffler.com Tallapoosa Co., AL Deed Book K Pages 180 and 181 LDS Microfilm Number 1304524 Salt Lake City UT JOHN RAY, ET AL, TO ELIJAH RAY 1856 The State of Alabama Tallapoosa County This indenture made and entered into this the (20) twentieth day of December one thousand eight hundred and fifty six between John Ray and Frances Ray, his wife of the one part, and Elijah Ray of the other part, all of the State and County aforesaid, witnesseth that the said John Ray and Frances his wife for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred and fifty dollars to them in hand paid by the said Elijah Ray at and before the sealing and delivering of these presents, the receipt whereof, do hereby bargain sell and convey unto the said Elijah Ray all that tract or parcel of land, to wit, the South West quarter of the South East quarter of Section Sixteen (16) in Township twenty two (22) of Range twenty two (22) containing forty acres more or less together with all and singular the rights and appurtenances thereunto belonging unto the said Elijah Ray, his heirs and assigns forever and we the said John Ray and Frances Ray his wife do covenant with the said Elijah Ray that was are lawfully seized in fee simple of the aforesaid granted premises, that we have a good right to sell the same to the said Elijah Ray, and that we will warrant and defend the right and title of the aforesaid granted premises unto the said Elijah Ray his heirs and assigns forever against the claims of ourselves and all and every other person whatever. Ray The State of Alabama Tallapoosa County I Luke Davenport an acting Justice of the Peace in and for said County do hereby certify John D. Ray a subscribing witness to the foregoing conveyance known to me appeared before me this day and being sworn stated that John Ray and Frances Ray the grantors in the conveyance voluntarily executed the same in his presence and in the presence of the other subscribing witness on the day the same bears date, that he [can’t read] the same in the presence of the grantors and of the other witness and that such other witness subscribed his name as a witness in his presence.
