P. ADAIR TO RANSOM RAY 1858 The State of Alabama Tallapoosa County Know all men by these presents that whereas I Robert P. Adair am justly indebted to James M. Pearson in the sum of one hundred and thirty 50/100 dollars by these promissory notes due the 25th December next, and whereas Ransom Ray is my security on said notes, and I being desirous of securing the said Ray and keeping him from paying any portion thereof have this day bargained and sold unto the said Ransom Ray, the following property to wit, the S. E. fourth of the South East fourth and the South West fourth of the South East fourth of Section 19, T. [Township] 22, Range 22, better known as the place where I now live and do all my crop of corn and cotton that I may grow during the present year to have and to hold said property upon the following condition that if the said R. P. Adair shall fail to pay off said notes when the same becomes due, then the said Ransom Ray is hereby empowered to sell said land at public or private sale and also as much thereof of the corn & cotton as will satisfy said debts or notes, and the remainder if any to be paid over to the said R. P. Adair. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this February 25th 1858. Robert P. Adair-his seal The State if Alabama Tallapoosa County I, Luke Davenport and acting Justice of the Peace in and for said County, hereby certify the R. P. Adair whose name is signed to the foregoing conveyance, and who is known to me, acknowledged before me, on this day, that being informed of the contents of the conveyance, he executed the same voluntarily on the day the same bears date.
