BAXTER RAY TO WM. H. HUMPHREY 1857

The State of Alabama
Tallapoosa County
Know all men by these presents that we Baxter Ray and Elizer J. Ray, his wife 
for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred & twenty five dollars to 
us in hand paid by William H. Humphrey the receipt whereof is hereby 
acknowledged do hereby grant bargain and sell enfeoff the right title and claim 
to the tract or parcel of land known and distinguished as one hundred acres in 
the North East corner of Section eight in Township twenty four of Range Twenty 
two also the North West quarter of North West quarter of Section Nine in 
Township Twenty four of Range Twenty two with the exception of four acres in 
the North East corner od said tract East in the district of Lands subject to 
sale at Montgomery Alabama containing forty acres with the exception of the 
four acres above mentioned all in the Tallapoosa land district to have and to 
hold the above granted premises to the said William H. Humphrey his heirs and 
assigns to their use and behoof forever and we do covenant with the said 
William H. Humphrey his heirs and assigns that we are lawfully seized in fee of 
the above granted premises that they are free from all encumbrances that we 
have a good right to sell the same to the said William H. Humphrey his heirs 
and assigns and that we will warrant and defend the above described premises to 
the above named William H. Humphrey his heirs and assigns forever against the 
lawful claims and demands of all persons or persons.  In witness whereof we 
have hereunto set our names and sealed our seals on the Eighteenth day of 
August in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and fifty seven.

I James J. Burke an acting Justice of the Peace in and for the said County 
hereby certify that Baxter Ray and Elizer J Ray whose names is [sic] signed to 
the foregoing conveyance they executed the same voluntarily on the day the same 
bears date.
Given under my hand this 18th day of August 1857
James J. Burke. J. P.

The foregoing conveyance was filed in office for record 27th April 1858 and 
duly recorded 29th April 1858
