SLAUGHTER, SHERIFF, TO SILAS RAY 1844 The State of Alabama Tallapoosa County By virtue of a writ of Fiera Facias from the County Court of Tallapoosa County in said State at the suit of Pickard & Stone and against George Howard and bearing date August 19th A. D. 1839 and to me directed I John R. Slaughter and Sheriff of said county of Tallapoosa did lately levy on and seize the lots tracts or parcels of land herein after specified and after being duly and publicly authorized according to law this at Dadeville in said County of Tallapoosa on Monday the fourth day of March A. D. 1844 proceed at public outcry to sell the same when Silas [Ray] was the highest and best bidder at the price of Seven & 25/100 dollars the same being knocked off to him the said Silas Ray for the sum aforesaid. In consideration of which I John R. Slaughter Sheriff as aforesaid do hereby bargain sell and convey unto him the said Silas Ray and to his heirs and assigns the following described property to wit; Lots numbers one and two in Block Three in the town of Dadeville in the said County and State. To have and to hold said bargained property or premises unto him the said Silas Ray and to his heirs and assigns forever. And I the said John R. Slaughter Sheriff as aforesaid do so far as this office of Sheriff authorizes me hereby warrant said property or real estate unto him the said Silas Ray and his heirs and assigns and the same to have hold and enjoy in the same manner the aforesaid George Howard Defenant [sic] as aforesaid could or might have held and enjoyed said property had not the same been seized and sold by virtue of the aforesaid writ of (Execution) on Fiera Facias. In Testimony whereof I the said John R. Slaughter Sheriff as aforesaid have hereunto set my hand and seal this the fourth day of March 1844. John R. Slaughter-his seal Signed sealed and delivered in presence of The State of Alabama Tallapoosa County I John A. Jordan Clerk of the County Court in and for said County do hereby certify that on the 30th day of October A. D. 1846 John R. Slaughter Sheriff whose signature appears to the foregoing deed personally appeared before me and acknowledged that he signed sealed and delivered the same to the said Silas Ray on the day of the date thereof for the purposes wherein named.
