JAMES C. WATSON & CO. TO SILAS RAY 1842/1847

The State of Alabama
Tallapoosa County
This Indenture made and entered into this sixth day of April A. D. One thousand 
eight hundred and forty two.   Between James C. Watson & Co. of one part and 
Silas Ray of said County of the other part. Witnesseth that the said James C. 
Watson & Co. for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and fifty 
dollars to them in hand paid by the said Silas Ray have granted bargained and 
sold and do by these presents grant bargain and sell unto the said Silas Ray 
his heirs and assigns One undivided half of the following described half 
Section of Land situate and being in the County of Tallapoosa and State of 
Alabama and known as the South half of Section Nine in Township Twenty two and 
Range Twenty Two.  To have and to hold unto him the said Silas Ray his heirs 
and assigns in Fee Simple forever.  In Testimony whereof the said James C. 
Watson & Co. have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year above 
written.

I John A. Jordan, Clerk of the County Court in and for the said County do 
hereby certify that on the Twentieth day of February A. D. 1847 Simeon Goolsby 
one of the subscribing witnesses to the written Deed personally appeared before 
me and after being duly sworn deposeth and saith that he saw James C. Watson 
whose name is subscribed to the within written Deed and signed “James C. Watson 
& Co.” sign seal and deliver the same to the said Silas Ray that he this 
deponent subscribed his name as a witness thereto in the presence of the said 
James C. Watson and that he saw the other subscribing witness Lemuel Merrill 
sign the same in the presence of the said James C. Watson and in the presence 
of each other on the day and year therein named.  In Testimony whereof I have 
hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written.
